McDonald’s has been part of the Karavites Family for two generations.
Angelo Karavites joined the McDonald’s system as a crew person, and then as a manager in the late 1960’s. In June, 1978, Angelo and Janet Karavites opened their first McDonald’s restaurant on the corner of Foster & Sheridan, which Janet still owns today. In the years that followed, Janet and Angelo grew their businesses and their family. Janet and Angelo are parents to four children and ten grandchildren. In 2000, Nick Karavites was approves as a McDonald’s Owner/Operator and joined the business organization that Janet and Angelo had been building. Together, the Karavites Family grew their McDonald’s business to twenty-four restaurant locations. Sadly, in October of 2019, Angelo passed away.
Over the years, Janet and Angelo were truly focused on running a family business. Today, their two oldest children, Mimi Schmitz and Nick Karavites, are both McDonald’s Owner/Operators. While Mimi has started her own organization with her husband, Ray, the Schmitz Organization, Nick continues to work alongside Janet in the Karavites Organization. Angelo and Janet’s two youngest kids, Athena Pruim and Effie Karavites, also work with Janet and Nick in the Karavites Organization.
